Communication Fold-Over

Materials:
Communication Fold-Over sheets for each team.

Notes:
Communication in customer service involves the give and take of information. Two people connecting over the phone or face-to-face.

When resolving a customer’s issue this type of two-way communication is essential. And when it breaks down, problems crop up.

Our Communication Fold-Over illustrates the disastrous, and in this case humorous, effects when there is no effective communication between teammates.

Directions:
Divide your team into groups of three. Print a Fold-Over sheet for each team. Fold back the section with the head so that it's hidden. Instruct team members to complete this project in silence.

Next, ask the first team member to draw a chest and arms, without showing it to teammates, and to fold that section back so that it is hidden. Proceed until all three people have drawn their section.

Now, ask your teams to unfold their drawings and discuss how the outcome might have been different if team members had been allowed to talk with each other about the drawing.
